How do landscape architects and planners address social justice?

"Landscape architects have the unique ability to look beyond the walls to the context of the wider neighborhood or community. Creating accessible green spaces is an investment in the health, livelihood, and culture of communities."

"We are continuously looking to improve the livability of our community by providing more affordable housing and using inclusionary zoning practices as well as providing more options for local businesses to grow."

"Planners have to ask themselves the questions: 'who is not around the table and why? Where did we fail in our access and communication?' In this way, we are able to understand the barriers that are in the way of people's engagement."

"90% of jaywalking tickets given our by NYPD in the last year were to people of color. This is vastly out of scale to the number of people who are jaywalking. My group has worked to overcome this injustice by  looking at inequities, and the income and racial makeup in neighborhoods to prioritize and locate projects."

"We create and design neighborhoods that allow for multiple housing choices in different price points in the same area. We create access to nature and public parks in communities that previously had none. We create public parks and plazas that act as meeting places for an exchange of ideas, community events, and even to stage protests."
